School Developments
  • Me - Ovanes Oganisian is the coach
  • Yury, Semen and Victor are my three boys and are initially the only kids attending school while in the development and testing mode
  • The basic facilities – the gym has been put in place with an Olympic size wrestling mat and some gym equipment
  • But more construction is needed before launching the school to the outside crowd
  • Initially the 3 kids in school are practicing 2-3 times a week, learning some technique and getting physically fit
  • The goal here is to develop work out routine of 3-4 weekly practices and accommodate it into the coach’s schedule. I am generally very busy with the regular job and business so its quite challenging for me to accommodate serious regular coaching activity into my schedule and get used to it. But I don’t want to hire outside stuff at least in the beginning so that I keep the lean budget and get familiar with many problems that are likely to arise.
  • As we launched this initiative during the COVID 19 quarantine, inviting outside wrestlers has been problematic. But we were planning on launching streaming video services to broadcast our workouts. This has been poorly thought through and no immediate impact from streaming has been expected, but we decided to test it anyway. In the future the streaming could allow some sort of distant participation in a wrestling workout – while the meaning and benefit of participating in practices at a distance is questionable and is probably only useful if somebody watches the stream and then asks to do a certain move or a certain technique etc.
